Dr. Eric R Masese
Senior Sociologist
Dr. Eric R Masese is a senior sociologist, academic leader, and research practitioner with over two decades of experience in university teaching, research, policy engagement, and capacity building in Africa. He is currently an Academic Leader and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Psychology at Moi University, Kenya, where he has led curriculum review, interdisciplinary research programmes, and postgraduate training. He holds a PhD in Anthropology/Ethnology from Université de Pau et des Pays de l’Adour (France), an MA in Sociology from the University of Nairobi, and a BA in Sociology from Kenyatta University. His research expertise spans youth and family studies, education, health and development interventions, governance, ethics, and social equity, with over 30 peer-reviewed publications in international journals and edited volumes.
Dr. Masese has served as Principal Investigator, Co-Principal Investigator, and Co-Investigator on numerous competitively funded research projects supported by institutions such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the European Research Council (ERC), the Swiss National Science Foundation, Institute for French Research in Africa (IFRA) and Institute for Research and Sustainable Development (IRD). He has supervised and examined over 20 Master’s and PhD theses across sociology, public health, development studies, and related fields, and has mentored early-stage investigators through structured research training programmes across Africa. Beyond academia, he has contributed to policy research, university financing reforms, ethics review boards, and international academic collaborations. His work is characterized by strong engagement with communities, rigorous qualitative and interdisciplinary methodologies, and a sustained commitment to research excellence, academic governance, and socially responsive scholarship.
